Media Coverage: Former Governor Ed Schafer, Voter Defense Association of ND Launch Measure 2 Opposition Campaign
On September 17, 2024, Constitution Day, the Voter Defense Association of North Dakota (VDA-ND) launched its opposition campaign to Constitutional Measure 2. Ed Schafer, former North Dakota governor, is the spokesperson for the opposition campaign.
“The people of North Dakota have proven that they can be trusted to make responsible decisions at the ballot box, which is why Measure 2 is unnecessary,” Schafer said.
Constitutional Measure 2 would require initiated measures to pass a primary and general election before adoption, raise the signature requirements for initiatives to qualify for the ballot, and institute a “single-subject” rule for initiatives.
“There is no other state in the country that requires a ballot initiative to be approved at both the primary and general elections,” Schafer said. “We should not be trying to fix a problem that does not exist.”
